WorkRoll is a web-based bug tracker.
If you're a software developer or technical project manager, you'll use WorkRoll to track bugs in software applications or web sites (you can even solicit comments directly from site visitors and manage their feedback in an organized way). If you're not, you'll use WorkRoll as a full-featured, web-enabled to-do list. It is designed to be installed in under five minutes (WorkRoll.com hosting is also available). WorkRoll is free for a 30-day trial period (download here).

Whether you're keeping track of software development, or managing an internal project, or launching a new product, or planning an upcoming event, WorkRoll allows you to assign tasks ("issues" or "bugs" yet to be completed or addressed) to users, to assign a priority and status to each issue, to create projects and associate these with issues, to set (date-and-time-based) issue deadlines, to track issues by version, to view sortable and filterable lists of these issues, and more. Both URLs and files of any type may be associated with issues as attachments. Also, WorkRoll will send e-mail to users notifying them of new issues assigned to them and of impending and missed deadlines (with optional "iCalendar" attachments, which integrate via a mouse-click with scheduling programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, iCal, and many others).

Finally, WorkRoll features tiered application access: administrative users are allowed full access to all site sections, while standard users are restricted to non-administrative screens. Users (for example, clients) may also be restricted to certain projects or given read-only status (which allows them to view but not create or edit issues).

The application is fully web-based; all users access WorkRoll through their web browsers, and all administration is web-based (no text files to configure, no XML to write). If you're a Windows user, there's a Windows installer file (right-click to download it) that will handle the installation for you after a few clicks of your mouse. If you want more control over the installation, or use a Macintosh or UNIX/Linux computer, WorkRoll will run on any JSP-friendly application server (for example, WebLogic, Websphere, JRun, Dynamo, Tomcat, Resin, and others, many of them free). If you don't wish to host the application yourself, WorkRoll offers a hosting option. Furthermore, unlike many bug-tracking software packages, no external database is needed; WorkRoll comes with its own (and WorkRoll's importing and exporting features will give you full control over your data).

The Info section contains a full features list, FAQ, and more; an online demo of the application is here.

Or get started by downloading Windows or non-windows installer files (free for a 30-day trial period). WorkRoll is available starting at $19.00 for a single-user license. WorkRoll also offers hosting on a per-month fee.
